Would you rather bookish edition!

Would you rather…
1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?
Definitely trilogies, I would of preferred it if it was series so then Harry Potter and The mortal instruments etc would count. I think you can get more invested into the story if there is more than one book. I haven’t really ever read a standalone which I love.

2. Read only female or male authors?
It doesn’t really make a difference for me, I don’t pick my books according to the gender of the author but by looking at my shelves I see I have books mostly written by female authors so I am going to go with that.

3. Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?
I buy literally all my books from Amazon. I know its wrong but *shrugs*

4. All books become movies or t.v. shows?
Probably movies, I think they would became too different if they were TV shows. Some books work as Tv shows but not all of them.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 books a week! DUH!

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?
A professional reviewer, seen as my creativity sucks. Also you would get free books!

7. Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven’t read before?
Always read new books, how else would you discover new favourites!

8. Be a librarian or book seller?
A book seller, I don’t really have an explanation for that one tbh.

9. Only read your favourite genre, or every genre except your favourite?
I could not go with out my fantasy books so READ MY FAVOURITE GENRE.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks

I only read physical books anyways. Who wouldn’t want a physical book?

Looking for Alaska by John Green

lookig

Before. Miles “Pudge” Halter’s whole existence has been one big nonevent, and his obsession with famous last words has only made him crave the “Great Perhaps” (François Rabelais, poet) even more. He heads off to the sometimes crazy, possibly unstable, and anything-but-boring world of Culver Creek Boarding School, and his life becomes the opposite of safe. Because down the hall is Alaska Young. The gorgeous, clever, funny, sexy, self-destructive, screwed-up, and utterly fascinating Alaska Young, who is an event unto herself. She pulls Pudge into her world, launches him into the Great Perhaps, and steals his heart.
After. Nothing is ever the same

This was on last months TBR but I really just want to of read all of John Greens books.

The Summer I turned pretty trilogy by Jenny Han

summer

Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer–they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.

Again, I think it was on last months TBR but summers almost over so I need to read this soon!

The Ocean at the end of the lane by Neil Gaiman

ocean

Sussex, England. A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn’t thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she’d claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy.
Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie—magical, comforting, wise beyond her years—promised to protect him, no matter what.

Was probably on last months TBR too (you can see a theme here) but I have heard nothing but good things about this one!

Anna and the French kiss trilogy by Stephanie Perkins

anna

Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all…including a serious girlfriend.
But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

Heard nothing but good things about these book, and now that the final book is out I can marathon the series.

Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz

aristotle

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

Firstly that cover is beautiful, secondly I have been recommend this so much! I must get to it in September.

Doll Bones by Holly Black

doll bones

Zach, Poppy and Alice have been friends for ever. They love playing with their action figure toys, imagining a magical world of adventure and heroism. But disaster strikes when, without warning, Zach’s father throws out all his toys, declaring he’s too old for them. Zach is furious, confused and embarrassed, deciding that the only way to cope is to stop playing . . . and stop being friends with Poppy and Alice. But one night the girls pay Zach a visit, and tell him about a series of mysterious occurrences. Poppy swears that she is now being haunted by a china doll – who claims that it is made from the ground-up bones of a murdered girl. They must return the doll to where the girl lived, and bury it. Otherwise the three children will be cursed for eternity . . .

I have never read a Holly Black book and I have heard really good things about this children’s book!

The Coldest girl in coldtown by Holly Black

coldest girl in coldtown

Tana lives in a world where walled cities called Coldtowns exist. In them, quarantined monsters and humans mingle in a decadently bloody mix of predator and prey. The only problem is, once you pass through Coldtown’s gates, you can never leave.
One morning, after a perfectly ordinary party, Tana wakes up surrounded by corpses. The only other survivors of this massacre are her exasperatingly endearing ex-boyfriend, infected and on the edge, and a mysterious boy burdened with a terrible secret. Shaken and determined, Tana enters a race against the clock to save the three of them the only way she knows how: by going straight to the wicked, opulent heart of Coldtown itself.

I am really looking forward to reading this one! Looks like a really good twist on vampires.

This book just sounds so fun and addicting!

The shock of the fall by Nathan Filer

shock of the fall

‘I’ll tell you what happened because it will be a good way to introduce my brother. His name’s Simon. I think you’re going to like him. I really do. But in a couple of pages he’ll be dead. And he was never the same after that.’

Just by reading that little snippet I am already addicted. I think this is going to be a very interesting book.

So that’s all of my September TBR, 14 books! I know I won’t read all of them but I am aiming for 7 maybe. I am at least trying to get the ones done which were on my August TBR.

What books are you planning on reading in September?

August book Wrap up

This month again, was a very good reading month. I read a total of 9 books!

Some of these I have a review on so links will be left, hope you guys had a great reading month too!

The Indiego Spell by Richelle Mead

indigoI actually did a review for this book so you can see that right here

But I really enjoyed this book, and this series in a whole. Each book just got better and better!

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

fieryI also did a review for this one too! So you can see that right here.

This book was very different too the previous ones but I actually enjoyed it even more! This is the fourth book in the Bloodlines series and had two POV’s unlike the previous books.

Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead

silverYou guessed it, I also did a review for this books as well so you can see that right here.

This came out near the end of July and is the second last book in the series and is by far my favourite!

If I stay and Where she went by Gayle Forman

if i stay

I loved this duo logy. I read each of these in one day. Although I did not do a review for these books I did recently do a review for the movie, so you can see that right here.

Definitely recommend! I preferred the first book a lot more and loved the characters and the life lesson in this so it is a must read!

The Selection trilogy by Kiera Cass

selectionI did a full series review for these which you can find right here.

I absolutely loved the first and the last book but the middle was a bit slow and nothing really happened. But I am excited to read whatever Kiera Cass rights next!

Recommend to any Dystopian lovers, more of a girls book but boys- by all means pick up the trilogy.

Warning- The female protagonist can be so infuriating at times!

Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin

game of thrones

Lastly I read Game of thrones. And lets be honest this is like the equivalent of three books. I found this surprisingly easy to read. I did not get confused or bored and even though the book had six or seven point of views I didn’t really dread any, as all the storylines were so engaging. For people who are a bit wary of reading this book I recommend watching the TV show first just so you have a face to the names you are reading and it will be a lot easier to follow the storyline. Only recommend this book for the older readers as there are a lot of aspects that could make readers feel very uncomfortable reading. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Cant wait to continue on with the series although I think I will leave it a month or two until I pick up ‘A clash of Kings’.

Tell me in the comments what books you read in August. Or your thoughts on the books I read!

If I Stay movie review!

First here is a little description of what the film is about: if i stay

Mia Hall thought the hardest decision she would ever face would be whether to pursue her musical dreams at Juilliard or follow a different path to be with the love of her life, Adam. But what should have been a carefree family drive changes everything in an instant, and now her own life hangs in theMore balance. Caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate.’

Yesterday I went to see If I stay which is an adaptation to Gayle Forman’s novel which I read recently. It had a lot to live up to with all the Young adult book to movie adaptations coming out this year (each year there seems to be more and more!) particularly The Fault in our Stars.

I was very surprised to see that I actually preferred If I stay to TFIOS! Not to compare the two films competitively or anything but if you liked The Fault in our Stars you will love If I stay.

I have to say that it was a very faithful adaptation to the book, but a lot of scenes (which ended up being some of my favourites) were added too.

After reading the book I thought that it would be very hard to adapt due to all the different flashback and also because the book is very uniquely not split up into chapters so there is really no beginning middle or end.

mia and adamThe acting was superb. Chloe Grace Moretz portrayed a fantastic Mia, the sad scenes made you sympathese with the character so much and they were just so gripping and heart wrenching. This film also made you really question what you would do put in her position.

Jamie Blackley was a great casting choice for Adam, he was funny charming and even infuriating at times. I was weary at first but he completely grew on me.

I loved how big of a part the parents played in the movie which you don’t see that often in YA. Especially not in romance type books. Also a big aspect of the film was the music, as both leading roles are musicians, but both love a very different genre of music. Adam plays in a rock band but Mia is into classical music and plays the Cello. My favourite musical scene was definitely the bonfire scene.

A must see for anyone, I feel like a great lesson or more like a reminder is told in this story.

But remember to bring some tissues!

Facebook- A book everybody pressured you to read

The Fault in our Stars by John Green

The_Fault_in_Our_Stars

I think I read this just as it was being announced that it was being made into a movie. The hype of this book was unreal, so I decided to give in and just read it.

Tumblr- A book you read before it was cool

Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling

harrypotter

I am not saying I was here from the beginning but I read them when it was more uncool to read Harry Potter. I am pretty sure it was the first proper book I ever read.

MySpace- A book you don’t remember whether you liked it or not

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

mockingjay

I remember loving the series, its one of my favourites. But after hearing so many bad things about Mockingjay my own opinions kind of got lost. I cant remember if I was disappointed by the ending or if I liked it. I really need to re-read the book.

Instagram- A book that was so beautiful you had to instagram it

My life next door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

my life next door

This was the last book I put on instagram due to the prettiness of the cover. SO SUMMERY!

Youtube- A book you wish could be turned into a movie

The selection by Kiera Cass

selection

I think the first book could be adapted into a great movie. I don’t know about the rest of the series but I think the first one would be so good.

Goodreads- A book you would recommend to everyone

Vicious by V.E Schwab

vicious

I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did. I think everyone should give this book a shot even though its adult I think really anyone could read it.

Skype- A book with characters you wish you could talk to instead of just reading about

Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead

Vampire academy

Wow I haven’t mentioned this book yet. I would love to talk to these characters (especially Adrian) although I would probably have to do it at night.

Other Updates

Sorry for my absence recently, I kind of got obsessed with Once upon a time and had no time to make posts and no time to read. I am still watching it but when I  am done I may make a post about it or about fairy tale retellings in general!

Also I have college starting soon so my amount of posts may be even less! D:

I promise to try and post as much as I can though 😀

Top 10 saddest scenes from The Vampire Diaries

Disclaimer- There will be spoilers from seasons 1-5 so don’t look if you are not up to them yet…not unless you like being spoiled. These are just my opinions and I know not everyone will agree with me. All photos and videos used do not belong to me, if they do belong to you just comment if you want credit for them! Thank you! 😛

10. Bonnie’s Grams death scene

This was from Season 1 episode 14. It was probably the first scene that truly made you sympathize with the characters. I didn’t really care for Bonnie or Grams much at this point during the show but I have to admit this scene was very emotional.
Here is a link to the full scene: Bonnies Grams death

9. Caroline and her Dad scene

This was from season 3 episode 13. I think the saddest thing about this scene is that it could of went either way. He could of survived. I think its the first in the series where we have seen someone choose not to become a vampire. It was really sad because Caroline thought he hated what she was and couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t become a vampire.
Here is the link to this scene: Caroline and her Dad

8. Elena realising Jeremy is dead elena

This was from season 4 episode 15. This just brought back all the memories of the people who have died before. Jenna. John. Alaric. It was so sad when Elena was asking Damon about Ric “I know you want your drinking buddy back” 😥 It makes you realise how many people she has lost in the past what 1-2 years and how much things has changed. She’s lost 3 sets of parents and now her brother. Here is the link to this scene: Elena realising Jeremy is dead

7.  Bonnies funeralbonnies funeral

This was from season 5 episode 4. Bonnie wasn’t even one of my favourite characters but the things what she said to all her friends were so sad, I cried like a baby. She knew exactly what to say to all of them to make them feel better and the fact that she got to say goodbye was all she could of wanted. Also if a Birdy song is playing, you know it is going to be a sad scene. Here is the link to this scene: Bonnies Funeral

6. Jenna and John’s funeral jenna and john

This was from season 2 episode 19. And yet another Birdy song. And yet another funeral. I really miss Jenna and surprisingly I really miss John. His letter which he left for Elena just redeemed his character so much. Also can I just add poor Alaric yet again losing another girlfriend. He must be so confused whether he should stay and look after Elena and Jeremy or leave Mystic Falls before anything else goes wrong. Here is the link to this scene: Jenna and Johns funeral

5. Elena dies/car flashback elena car scene

This was from season 3 episode 22. I think this is one of the best scenes in the history of the Vampire diaries. I loved the flashbacks to when Elena’s parents died. I loved the symmetry of it all. It was so emotionally captivating. Also this is also the scene when Alaric dies for reals this time.  Its so sad that Damon is not only seeing his best friend die but at the very same time he knows that Elena is also dead. Then Alaric appears as a ghost to Jeremy and tells him he will never be alone . RIP ALARIC + RIP HUMAN ELENA 😥 Here is a link for the scene: Elena dies/Car Flashback

4. Stefan’s death scene stefan death

This was from season 5 episode 21. Candice Accola’s acting in this scene was pure gold. I loved how Stefan and Caroline’s relationship has developed through this season. Always sticking up for each other. But then Stefan literally gets his heart ripped out. The song playing in the background is full of determination because we know that Caroline will stop at nothing to get Stefan back. Steroline! Here is a link to the scene: Stefans death scene

3. Alaric’s ‘death’ scene alaric death

This was from season 3 episode 20. This may be cheating a little because I’m referring to two scenes. The first is when everybody comes to say goodbye to Alaric. And he talks to Elena and Jeremy. ‘Taking care of you and Jeremy has been the closest to come of the life I’ve always wanted’ With The Fray playing in the background could this episode become any sadder. Yes. By doing the Damon and Alaric goodbye speech too. This was hands down the best and most unlikely friendship on the show. Here is the link for scene 1 and scene 2

2. Damon and Elena goodbye scene

This was from season 5 episode 22. Hands down the best Delena scene ever. I’m sure in seasons to come it will be hard to be this scene. ‘Its the epitome of a fulfilled life’ For anyone who has ever doubted there love for each other please re-watch this scene. Also I loved the song in the background for this scene. Here is the link for this scene- Damon and Elenas goodbye

1. Alaric and Damon grave scenedamon and alaric

This was from season 4 episode 2. First can I just applaud how well the writers incorporated Alaric death into season 4. In a lot of other TV shows they would of just mentioned him once or twice. I loved what this scene showed about Damon’s character. He’s not staying there to try and win the girl he’s staying there to look after Elena and Jeremy because that’s what Alaric would of wanted. If Ric was alive still Damon would of left because he is the only one he trusts with Elena and Jeremy’s safety. I think Alaric’s death shows off Damon’s humanity better than any other character on the show including Elena. Here is the link for this scene: I miss you too buddy 😥

Well I would say that was fun but honestly it was rather depressing. Leave comments down below saying what was your saddest scene and what are you hoping to see in season 6?

The Selection series book review

selectionThe Selection series

Plot Synopsis: For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself—and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined

There will be no spoilers in this review. 😛

The first book in the selection series I loved, it was what I had expected from the book. It wasn’t necessarily fast paced but it was addictive. It didn’t have the most unique world in comparison to other dystopian. Same old split into different districts or factions. Well in this case Castes.

But in this case the series was definitely more focused on the romance aspect of it rather than the ‘changing the world in order for it to become a better place’ it was nice to see how Americas two relationships unfold with Aspen and Maxon but after a while it got a bit repetitive.

It wasn’t as though I was in mixed thought about who I wanted her to end up with. I was screaming throughout the full series ‘JUST PICK MAXON’. But it frustratingly took three whole books for her to decide.

How many times good one girl change her mind?

It was very interesting to read a love triangle book where one of the characters don’t even know they are in a love triangle. In fact it was more like a love hexagon or possible even more sides.

The plot at points was very predictable, I don’t think America Singer was the smartest egg in the basket. The last book had quite a few unexpected turns however which brought my rating up a little.

The first book The Selection had a lot of sweet and funny moments and was the most light hearted in the series.

The Elite however was very slow and predictable. Normally middle books in trilogy’s are usually my favourite. Not in this case however. I feel like everything in this book could of been summed up in 150 pages at most.

The One which is the final book in the series however had a beautiful ending which I was very pleased with.

I recommend this series to any dystopian lovers who are looking for more of a romance book rather than political.

Over all the series is 4 stars! 😀

Favourite quote- This isn’t happily ever after. Its so much more than that.

Song that reminds me of the book series- Devotion- Hurts

Devotion- Hurts

Anybody else get reminded of the Mikaelson ball from TVD while reading this book?

The book cake tag

1. FLOUR: A book that was really slow to start but picked up as it went alongelite

I’m going to go with my most recent read which was The Elite by Kiera Cass. It is the second book in the selection series. The first 50 pages nothing really happend but then it did start to pick up. So far I really advise this series, it is unlike any dystopian I have read.

2. MARGARINE: A book that has a really rich and great plotlotr

Theres quite a few, the Lord of the rings series. I cannot even imagine how much work went into crating that world. It is the most detailed world. Also the Harry Potter series, I love how everything links back to the first book it feels as though every point made in the book will soon turn out to have an effect later in the books.

3. EGGS: A book that you thought was going to be bad, but turned out to be quite enjoyableif i stay

If I stay by Gayle Forman. I never necessarely thought it was going to be a bad book but I hadnt heard the greatest praise for this book, people seemed to love her other duology Just one day much more than this one. HOwever I read it in a day and I thought it was great and I can definetly see myself re-reading it. I am now very excited for the movie.

4. SUGAR: A sugary/sweet book51gembSD3OL

Billy and me by Giovanna Fletcher, by looking at the cover you can tell what kind of book it will be. This book is just every girls dream- an insanely hot actor falling in love with you. Its a really sweet and enjoyable read.

5. ICING: A book covering every element you enjoyVampire academy

Probably the Vampire academy series. Badass female protagonist. Loveable best friend. Funny and snarky humour. Forbidden romance. Insanely attractive guys. A rich and unique interpretation of paranormal folk lore.

6. SPRINKLES: A book series you can turn to for a little pick me up when you’re feeling downcity of bones

The mortal instruments series. I find all the characters so much fun and I find it really easy to pick up a Cassandra Clare book and jump into the Shadowhunter world.

7. CHERRY ON TOP: Favorite book of the year so farcity of heavenly fire

Probably my most anticipated release of 2014 which was City of Heavenly fire, it was all I could of ever asked for in a book. Perfect end to the Mortal instruments series.

I tag anyone who has not done this tag!

Summertime Madness book tag!

Summer may be nearly over for me but that doesnt mean I can’t do this tag which was created by Jackeatsbooks.

1. Show a book with a summery cover!my life

I feel like this one is a little predictible and everybody puts it but…LOOK HOW SUMMERY IT IS!

2.Pick one fictional place that would be the perfect destination for a summer vacation!

For some reason my first thought went to Hogwarts or St Vladmirs then I realised that was a bit illogical. Then I thought of my recent reads and realised I would love to go Palm Springs which is in California from the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead. Not the school obviously maybe just chilling all summer at Adrian’s.

3.Youre about to go on a flight to your summer vacation. But you want to read a book that lasts for the whole flight, what novella do you choose.un

The shatter me novellas Destroy me and Fracture me. Ive heard really great things about these and that they are a must read for any fan of the Shatter me trilogy.

4. You have a case of summertime sadness what happy book do you pick up to shine a smile on your face?Vampire academy

Probably the first book in any long series like Harry Potter and the phiosphes stone or Vampire Academy. The first books in these series are just so fun and its nice to see how far these characters have come and what they used to be like.

5.You’re sitting at the beach all alone…which fictional character would be your beach babe?maxon

I feel like ive mentioned this series to much recently so I am not going to say Adrian Ivashkov from the bloodlines series. Instead I’m going to say Maxon from the selection, I just read the first book and I love him…I hope my thoughts don’t change!

6. To match your icecream you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidkick do you pick?

I’m going to say Kenji from the Shatter me trilogy, because he keeps thing so calm ALSO HE CAN TURN INVISIBLE. I’m sure we would have alot of fun with that special power during the summer.

7. Share the summertime happiness! Who do you tag?

I dont know whos already done this but…
