Would you rather bookish edition!

Would you rather…
1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?
Definitely trilogies, I would of preferred it if it was series so then Harry Potter and The mortal instruments etc would count. I think you can get more invested into the story if there is more than one book. I haven’t really ever read a standalone which I love.

2. Read only female or male authors?
It doesn’t really make a difference for me, I don’t pick my books according to the gender of the author but by looking at my shelves I see I have books mostly written by female authors so I am going to go with that.

3. Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?
I buy literally all my books from Amazon. I know its wrong but *shrugs*

4. All books become movies or t.v. shows?
Probably movies, I think they would became too different if they were TV shows. Some books work as Tv shows but not all of them.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?
5 books a week! DUH!

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?
A professional reviewer, seen as my creativity sucks. Also you would get free books!

7. Only read your top 20 favourite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven’t read before?
Always read new books, how else would you discover new favourites!

8. Be a librarian or book seller?
A book seller, I don’t really have an explanation for that one tbh.

9. Only read your favourite genre, or every genre except your favourite?
I could not go with out my fantasy books so READ MY FAVOURITE GENRE.

10. Only read physical books or eBooks

I only read physical books anyways. Who wouldn’t want a physical book?

August book Wrap up

This month again, was a very good reading month. I read a total of 9 books!

Some of these I have a review on so links will be left, hope you guys had a great reading month too!

The Indiego Spell by Richelle Mead

indigoI actually did a review for this book so you can see that right here

But I really enjoyed this book, and this series in a whole. Each book just got better and better!

The Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead

fieryI also did a review for this one too! So you can see that right here.

This book was very different too the previous ones but I actually enjoyed it even more! This is the fourth book in the Bloodlines series and had two POV’s unlike the previous books.

Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead

silverYou guessed it, I also did a review for this books as well so you can see that right here.

This came out near the end of July and is the second last book in the series and is by far my favourite!

If I stay and Where she went by Gayle Forman

if i stay

I loved this duo logy. I read each of these in one day. Although I did not do a review for these books I did recently do a review for the movie, so you can see that right here.

Definitely recommend! I preferred the first book a lot more and loved the characters and the life lesson in this so it is a must read!

The Selection trilogy by Kiera Cass

selectionI did a full series review for these which you can find right here.

I absolutely loved the first and the last book but the middle was a bit slow and nothing really happened. But I am excited to read whatever Kiera Cass rights next!

Recommend to any Dystopian lovers, more of a girls book but boys- by all means pick up the trilogy.

Warning- The female protagonist can be so infuriating at times!

Game of Thrones by George R.R Martin

game of thrones

Lastly I read Game of thrones. And lets be honest this is like the equivalent of three books. I found this surprisingly easy to read. I did not get confused or bored and even though the book had six or seven point of views I didn’t really dread any, as all the storylines were so engaging. For people who are a bit wary of reading this book I recommend watching the TV show first just so you have a face to the names you are reading and it will be a lot easier to follow the storyline. Only recommend this book for the older readers as there are a lot of aspects that could make readers feel very uncomfortable reading. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Cant wait to continue on with the series although I think I will leave it a month or two until I pick up ‘A clash of Kings’.

Tell me in the comments what books you read in August. Or your thoughts on the books I read!

If I Stay movie review!

First here is a little description of what the film is about: if i stay

Mia Hall thought the hardest decision she would ever face would be whether to pursue her musical dreams at Juilliard or follow a different path to be with the love of her life, Adam. But what should have been a carefree family drive changes everything in an instant, and now her own life hangs in theMore balance. Caught between life and death for one revealing day, Mia has only one decision left, which will not only decide her future but her ultimate fate.’

Yesterday I went to see If I stay which is an adaptation to Gayle Forman’s novel which I read recently. It had a lot to live up to with all the Young adult book to movie adaptations coming out this year (each year there seems to be more and more!) particularly The Fault in our Stars.

I was very surprised to see that I actually preferred If I stay to TFIOS! Not to compare the two films competitively or anything but if you liked The Fault in our Stars you will love If I stay.

I have to say that it was a very faithful adaptation to the book, but a lot of scenes (which ended up being some of my favourites) were added too.

After reading the book I thought that it would be very hard to adapt due to all the different flashback and also because the book is very uniquely not split up into chapters so there is really no beginning middle or end.

mia and adamThe acting was superb. Chloe Grace Moretz portrayed a fantastic Mia, the sad scenes made you sympathese with the character so much and they were just so gripping and heart wrenching. This film also made you really question what you would do put in her position.

Jamie Blackley was a great casting choice for Adam, he was funny charming and even infuriating at times. I was weary at first but he completely grew on me.

I loved how big of a part the parents played in the movie which you don’t see that often in YA. Especially not in romance type books. Also a big aspect of the film was the music, as both leading roles are musicians, but both love a very different genre of music. Adam plays in a rock band but Mia is into classical music and plays the Cello. My favourite musical scene was definitely the bonfire scene.

A must see for anyone, I feel like a great lesson or more like a reminder is told in this story.

But remember to bring some tissues!

I promise to try and post as much as I can though 😀

The book cake tag

1. FLOUR: A book that was really slow to start but picked up as it went alongelite

I’m going to go with my most recent read which was The Elite by Kiera Cass. It is the second book in the selection series. The first 50 pages nothing really happend but then it did start to pick up. So far I really advise this series, it is unlike any dystopian I have read.

2. MARGARINE: A book that has a really rich and great plotlotr

Theres quite a few, the Lord of the rings series. I cannot even imagine how much work went into crating that world. It is the most detailed world. Also the Harry Potter series, I love how everything links back to the first book it feels as though every point made in the book will soon turn out to have an effect later in the books.

3. EGGS: A book that you thought was going to be bad, but turned out to be quite enjoyableif i stay

If I stay by Gayle Forman. I never necessarely thought it was going to be a bad book but I hadnt heard the greatest praise for this book, people seemed to love her other duology Just one day much more than this one. HOwever I read it in a day and I thought it was great and I can definetly see myself re-reading it. I am now very excited for the movie.

4. SUGAR: A sugary/sweet book51gembSD3OL

Billy and me by Giovanna Fletcher, by looking at the cover you can tell what kind of book it will be. This book is just every girls dream- an insanely hot actor falling in love with you. Its a really sweet and enjoyable read.

5. ICING: A book covering every element you enjoyVampire academy

Probably the Vampire academy series. Badass female protagonist. Loveable best friend. Funny and snarky humour. Forbidden romance. Insanely attractive guys. A rich and unique interpretation of paranormal folk lore.

6. SPRINKLES: A book series you can turn to for a little pick me up when you’re feeling downcity of bones

The mortal instruments series. I find all the characters so much fun and I find it really easy to pick up a Cassandra Clare book and jump into the Shadowhunter world.

7. CHERRY ON TOP: Favorite book of the year so farcity of heavenly fire

Probably my most anticipated release of 2014 which was City of Heavenly fire, it was all I could of ever asked for in a book. Perfect end to the Mortal instruments series.

I tag anyone who has not done this tag!

Summertime Madness book tag!

Summer may be nearly over for me but that doesnt mean I can’t do this tag which was created by Jackeatsbooks.

1. Show a book with a summery cover!my life

I feel like this one is a little predictible and everybody puts it but…LOOK HOW SUMMERY IT IS!

2.Pick one fictional place that would be the perfect destination for a summer vacation!

For some reason my first thought went to Hogwarts or St Vladmirs then I realised that was a bit illogical. Then I thought of my recent reads and realised I would love to go Palm Springs which is in California from the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead. Not the school obviously maybe just chilling all summer at Adrian’s.

3.Youre about to go on a flight to your summer vacation. But you want to read a book that lasts for the whole flight, what novella do you choose.un

The shatter me novellas Destroy me and Fracture me. Ive heard really great things about these and that they are a must read for any fan of the Shatter me trilogy.

4. You have a case of summertime sadness what happy book do you pick up to shine a smile on your face?Vampire academy

Probably the first book in any long series like Harry Potter and the phiosphes stone or Vampire Academy. The first books in these series are just so fun and its nice to see how far these characters have come and what they used to be like.

5.You’re sitting at the beach all alone…which fictional character would be your beach babe?maxon

I feel like ive mentioned this series to much recently so I am not going to say Adrian Ivashkov from the bloodlines series. Instead I’m going to say Maxon from the selection, I just read the first book and I love him…I hope my thoughts don’t change!

6. To match your icecream you want an icy cool sidekick! Which fictional sidkick do you pick?

I’m going to say Kenji from the Shatter me trilogy, because he keeps thing so calm ALSO HE CAN TURN INVISIBLE. I’m sure we would have alot of fun with that special power during the summer.

7. Share the summertime happiness! Who do you tag?

I dont know whos already done this but…

The Fiery Heart by Richelle mead

The Fiery Heart

Plot synopsis:fiery

WHEN PULSES QUICKEN NO SECRET IS SAFE. Sydney always believed that alchemists were born to protect vampire secrets and human lives – until she met Marcus and turned her back on everything she once knew. But she’s not free yet. When her sister Zoe arrives, Sydney can only tell her half-truths about her past. And with every word she risks exposure – and the fatal consequences. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney must choose her path once and for all. Even if that means harnessing her magical powers to destroy the way of life she was raised to defend…

This book was very different to the previous books in the series. In a good way though. One major difference in the format was the double POV, I have never really liked double POV books as I always found it hard to decipher who is who. However in this book it was easy to understand as Adrian and Sydney are two very different people. I think I liked Adrian’s chapters a bit more. It was a big change to both the previous books in the series and the Vampire Academy series as we have never been in the perspective of a boy, or a moroi, or a spirit user. I think the spirit aspect was really interesting as we have never truly understood what using to much spirit does and how being cut off from spirit effects them.

Another major difference to the plot was that Sydney and Adrian are finally together! Finally after 3 books! But there are a lot of complications. One would be her sister Zoe. I did not like her at all, she was to sneaky and two faced. I knew I couldn’t trust her as soon as she tried to impress her dad at the family dinner by making Sydney look bad.

I really liked seeing all the old characters back again when they went to the court to do research. Lissa, Christian, Rose, Dimitri…the list could go on of all the characters.

I think this book had the biggest cliff hanger of all the series, luckily for me the next book in the series just recently came out. I feel like it is going to be a depressing one.

5/5 stars.

Favourite quote- Relax, having kids is years away. But can you imagine? Your brains, my charm, our collective good looks… then add in the usual physical abilities dhampirs get. It’s really not even fair to everyone else.

A song that reminds me of the book- Running up that hill- Placebo

The Indigo Spell by Richelle Mead book discussion

The Indigo Spellindigo

Plot Synopsis:

An ancient magic. A heart-wrenching decision… Sydney Sage is an Alchemist. She protects vampire secrets – and human lives. In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she is struggling to decide between following her Alchemist teachings – or her heart. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch, a former Alchemist who is now on the run. As Marcus pushes her to rebel, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as Sydney searches for the person attacking powerful young witches, she realizes that she must embrace her magical blood – or else she will be next.

I really like the difference between this series and the Vampire Academy series. The VA series was much more of a vampire book where as the Bloodlines series is more of a witchy book. I have never really read a witchy book (unless you count Harry Potter) and it has really opened my eyes to this sort of theme in books and I will definitely check some more witch books.

If you guys have any suggestions let me know!

I liked the introduction of the new character Marcus, I am sure he will play a very important role in the next books. I actually thought he was going to turn out to be a love interest to Sydney but by the end of the book I am pretty sure that is not going to happen. I really like the scene with the fight between Adrian and him. Ah Adrian defending Sydney’s honour. Even if she didn’t particularly want it defended.

Near the beginning of the book it was the wedding scene and I was so happy to see some of the older characters from the books. I loved seeing Rose and Dimitri together as in the previous books we have only ever scene them one at a time. We even got to see Lissa and Christian, I hope they play a bit more of a role in the next books.

The scene with Adrian and Sydney dancing was adorable, Adrian new he shouldn’t have done that he could of blew there cover easily and got both of them in immense trouble but Adrian does what Adrian wants to do.

I was completely thrown off guard with the Veronica-Alicia-witchy storyline, I didn’t expect it at all. I couldn’t even remember who Alicia was until it was explained. Definitely a very good and unexpected plotline. That is the plotline what boosted this book up before the golden lily and possibly even the first book bloodlines to my favourite.

The forbidden romance was amazingly frustrating. Even more frustrating than the Rose and Dimitri relationship in VA!

I am so glad they are finally together.

But approaching the end of the book things have just gotten really really difficult in maintaining there secrecy from the Alchemists and Moroi and Dhapmir. Basically the rest of the world.

I’m excited to see in the next book if I will like Zoe or not? And how Adrian and Sydneys relationship will unfold.

5/5 star book!

What did you guys think?

Favourite quote- You’re not as much of a lost cause as she was. I mean, with her, I had to overcome her deep, epic love with a Russian warlord. You and I just have to overcome hundreds of years’ worth of deeply ingrained prejudice and taboo between our two races. Easy.”

Song that reminds me of the book- The script- This=Love

The ocean at the end of the laneocean

Sussex, England. A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. Although the house he lived in is long gone, he is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock, and her mother and grandmother. He hasn’t thought of Lettie in decades, and yet as he sits by the pond (a pond that she’d claimed was an ocean) behind the ramshackle old farmhouse, the unremembered past comes flooding back. And it is a past too strange, too frightening, too dangerous to have happened to anyone, let alone a small boy. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie—magical, comforting, wise beyond her years—promised to protect him, no matter what.

But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood. When Cricket–a gifted inventor–steps out from his twin sister’s shadow and back into Lola’s life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

I may go off this TBR but this is my guidelines. It is a total of 14 books, I’m aiming to read at least half of these. What are you guys going to read? 😀
